Jaisalmer in India

Travel to India is always filled with a lot of interesting sightseeings and definitely one of the Asian top destinations is the Golden City. Called the Golden City, Jaisalmer is an amazing city in India, reflecting the tradition and culture of Indian people who left here many historical monuments and landmarks. Its location in the northwest, in the province of Rajasthan.

The region on the border between Pakistan and India, occupies sandstone ridge in the western part of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer is best known for its namesake castle. It was built on a hill or mountain Trikuta top three. It was built in 1156 by Reval Jaisalmer after he and his people leave their homes earlier and decided that he would settle here. Today, most residents here are descendants of original settlers. The fortress is 300 meters above the city, was built of yellow sandstone.

Of massive walls is about 100 towers. They surround the five linked palace. The biggest of these is the rulers’ residence Raj Mahal. Beyond the thick walls have survived another three Jain temples built between landmark 12 and 15 century, a Hindu temple, and pretty homes of the rich people of that time. In the past, locals have used its good geographical location as a means of enrichment. They charge the passing trade caravans.

Jaisalmer is located on the commercial crossroads, linking India with Central Asia, Africa, Persia, Egypt and Arabia. Since the advent of sea routes, however, the region has not won so well by traders and became a mere province.

Perhaps for this reason, Jaisalmer was able to largely preserve its ancient buildings and architecture in general. Unlike most forts in India, Jaisalmer and is now operational. Life goes beyond the walls, there are several hotels, restaurants, shops and homes. Until several years ago, Jaisalmer was open military airport where a landing, however, and civilian flights. They are limited, as only possible between October – May. It is envisaged that in 2010 opened a new airport.
