Ancient Roman city Bosra in Syria
Bosra is an ancient city in Syria, which is the most Roman city in the country and best known almost entirely preserved ancient city theater. In the city of Bosra you can see monuments from the Byzantine together with architecture from the management of Halifat.
The city has been capital of the Roman Empire for the Arab territory and was seriously reflected by the Roman culture, traditions and architecture. Here is located one of the best preserved amphitheaters in the world.
The amphitheater is located south of Damascus and wholly built of black stone, typical of this area. Bosra was the first city of the Nabatean country conquered by Cornelius Palma – a general of the Roman Emperor Trajan.
Today, Bosra is a popular tourist destination among lovers of historical culture, but mostly because of the well-preserved Roman amphitheater. It is considered one of the best preserved in the world, which today is actively used. Thanks to its excellent acoustics Roman theater is a place where are performing guest-musicians and conductors from around the world. Roman theater has a capacity of 15,000 people with 37 rows of seats. The length of the theater is 100 meters, which together with its capacity makes it one of the biggest outdoor theaters in the world, which are still used for performances.
The Roman Theatre is the catacombs, which can accommodate thousands of people. This is due to the fact that long structure was used as a military refuge and as a place for entertainment.
